Engine: Yamaha 115hp Shopping experience: wasn’t thrilled about paying $155 for a manual trim/ tilt valve. (especially when the “same” valve was available on Amazon & EBay for $60 - $75) After reading the reviews of those cheaper valves and seeing how many customers complained about incorrect fit, I decided to go with Crowley. Their online schematics with original equipment parts #’s etc. took the guess work out of the equation. Doing the repair ‘once’ with the proper part is definitely worth the higher cost! I’ve already bookmarked Crowley for any of my future Marine maintenance & repairs Repair difficulty: Medium Repair time: 30 to 60 mins Repair symptoms: manual tilt valve had frozen in place with a badly stripped screw head. I needed to carefully use a small center punch, then drill an 1/8” starter hole about 5/8” deep and use a screw extractor bit to carefully remove the old valve. luckily the bit didn’t ‘walk’ on me, and I was able to remove it without damaging the threads. It’s always a lil’ unsettling using those extractor bits, especially on a delicate hydraulic mount- a happy ending for sure, but I never understood why the Marine Industry doesn’t use a slotted ‘hex head’ on these valves. perhaps not enough clearance for a thin wall socket thru that access port?
