Here’s how they’re doing it
They’re using TikTok, Instagram and Facebook accounts with fake followers (these can be purchased for cheap) and they’ll post clips of running outboards, posting them up for sale.
The videos and photos shown on these pages aren’t even of their property. They will download these from other pages, and post it on their own.
They’ll claim they ship all over the country, and that they work for Crowley. They will give you their personal phone number and will ask you to not call the main line, claiming, “I don’t work in customer support, I am in sales, so I work from a separate line”—which is a blatant lie.
They will request that you send them money through Western Union or direct deposit. You can tell these are fakes because the real Crowley Marine will only take payment through our website or over our main line (303-355-3355). Anyone trying to get money out of you on social media is, without a doubt, a SCAMMER.
There might be other ways these scammers could come up with to commit their crimes. If you've been have been contacted by them and could provide us with some more information, we'll be happy to make note of it and share it with the authorities.
If you see pages like these, please give us a hand by reporting them. You’d be doing the entire community a huge favor.
