Engine: 1991 yamaha 150 Shopping experience: It took a little longer than I'd hoped to get the part. Apparently that was because of yamaha having one of their warehouses closed though. I will buy from them again. Repair difficulty: Medium Repair time: More than 4 hours Repair symptoms: motor would not tilt I checked the relays for operation and they worked so it must be the electric motor driving the hydraulic pump . Removing the motor turned out to be quite difficult. The third screw is impossible to reach so I had to take the engine off the boat to get to it. (a neighbor had an engine hoist) Then you can't get a socket on it and a wrench could only turn it enough to get the next tooth on a 16 point closed end wrench. Didn't matter though , the head of the bolt sheared off. That allowed me to remove the motor and fortunately there was enough of a stub to get a pair of vice grips on it . (pounded on it with a hammer to break it free and put some wd on it for a day) Bench tested it and nothing. I took it apart and one of the brushes was stuck! I scraped the brush and got it working smoothly . Cleaned the rust off the permanent magnet part and repainted it, cleaned the seats where the O-rings sit. I replaced the o-rings .Then there was the problem of how to put it together while holding the brushes in. I fashioned some u-clips out of 12ga house wire by hammering flat the part that touched the brushes then bending it to fit. I slipped the commutator in then carefully turned the clips sideways to remove them. Bench tested it and it worked . Then I wired it to the engine and it also worked . I cleaned the seat for the o-ring between the motor and the tilt assembly and put a new o-ring in. Put it back together (I put some anti-seize on the bolts ) and had to put hydraulic fluid in to replace what I lost in the process. So far so good. 3 o-rings ,a $10 bolt (really yamaha?) and about a cup of hydraulic fluid , so $35 and a lot of aggravation finished the job.
